NOOMI: child play becomes energy

NOOMI: child play becomes energy

Over half of the refugee population are children. Many of them grow up without access to electricity, education or play and are forced into labor. This psychical and social environment of refugee camps lacks positive stimulation for children, affecting their development.

Alternating between a light and a toy, Noomi caters for children's psychological needs. Noomi is powered by children and the activities performed by them, thus energy is created not through a chore-like activity but through play.

Noomi is a personal and portable energy-generating toy with a LED lamp inside. Because it is powered by kinetic energy it is an entirely user-dependent mechanism, without having to rely on external conditions. Thus, children will have access to a toy or a rechargeable light source anytime, anywhere.
